The investor needs to be careful about the legality of his title to the property and that the legal documentation is completed in a proper way. Like in most countries in Asia, foreigners are not allowed to own freehold title to land in Indonesia. The two commonly used methods for foreigners to enjoy the full benefits of a property: Villa Bugis recommends long term leasing, both because it is fully legal for foreigners and because it actually makes a better investment. See Investment for further details. All contracts are executed before a registered Notary Public, with authority to legalise the procedure. Notary Public writes the contract in Indonesian and provides certified English translation. Notary is independent and has the obligation by law to represent both parties and ensure that all documentation is fully legal. For buyers who are not familiar with the legalities there is a possibility to engage a local or western consultant who specialises in reviewing contracts for foreigners. There is a number of consultants in Bali that offer this service. The investor needs only one business day in Bali for the legal work |
